Riddells Bay Golf Course
Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club
Opened in 1922, Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club is Bermuda's oldest golf course. However, do not think
for a minute that this means it is out of date, in fact, like a good wine, this Bermuda golf course has
only gotten better with time. Riddell's Bay is a private club so it has all the amenities and luxuries afforded to such a
club, however visitors to Bermuda are always welcome to play here. Combine this with its central location in the island
and you have a truly fantastic 18 holes to play.
Like most courses on the gorgeous island of Bermuda, Riddell's Bay Golf Club has its share of scenic locations that warrant time to
stop and take a picture. Located towards the mid to western end of the island in Warwick, this course meanders along a
peninsula which, at its widest point only measures approximately 600 yards. While this narrow course improves the overall
scenic views immensely, it makes for some challenging shots. If you are not careful you can lose your ball in the ocean on
a couple of holes; not your typical water hazard. Even though some of the shots require some thought and skill, overall the
course is not that difficult and is fairly short at only 5,800 yards. This makes it easily playable by golfers of all ages
and abilities.
Riddell's Bay Golf Course was originally designed by architect Devereux Emmett who, at the time was fairly unknown. However, shortly
after designing this quintessentially Bermudian course, Devereux went-on to build the Congressional near Washington, D.C.,
the site of the 1997 U.S. Open. Just as Congressional was remodeled by Robert Trent Jones, and again more recently by his
son, Rees Trent Jones, so is Riddell's Bay gradually acquiring a new look. This means that you can come back time and time
again and not play the same course.
Another important aspect to Riddell's Bay is its clubhouse which is a 150 year old farmhouse. In 1998 though the original
structure went through a complete refurbishment so stepping into the bar you are greeted by a modern, luxurious clubhouse.
Whether you want a casual meal or a formal dinner you will find a menu to satisfy the pickiest eater in your party. In the
lounge you can finish your game by enjoying a drink while overlooking the 18th green and 1st tee.
